Wind Cold Formulas

Because of the small number of prepared formulas for wind cold patterns, the practitioner faces with a clear tai yang illness will be somewhat limited in his or her treatment approach. The classical representative formulas for the resolution of wind-cold pathogens as characterized in tai yang illnesses include Ma Huang Tang (Ephedra Decoction) for repletion, and Gui Zhi Tang (Cinnamon-Twig Decoction) for depletion, as well as their common derivatives, Xiao/Da Ching Lung Tang (Minor/Major Cyan Dragon Decoction), and Ge Gen Tang (Pueraria Decoction). These are not generally available as Chinese prepared formulas, and must be sought elsewhere. The formula listed here for the resolution of exogenous wind-cold has special as well as general applications. Chuan Xiong Cha Tiao Wan is appropriate when headache is prominent in wind-cold contraction.
